Slow Cooker Roast And 1 Hour Rolls

There's not a whole lot that compares to a slow cooked roast. It's the ultimate comfort food. I make one every so often when we are craving a substantial meal. I love that it's SO easy to put together. Literally just throw it all into the slow cooker and turn it on. This recipe is an oldie, but a goodie.

Here are your ingredients. A roast (I don't think it matters what kind), onions, mushrooms, baby carrots, a brown gravy packet, a ranch dressing packet, an Italian dressing packet and water.

Mix the brown gravy packet, ranch dressing packet and Italian dressing packet with 1/2 C. water

Put roast in the slow cooker. Layer the remaining ingredients (carrots, mushrooms and quartered onions) I usually like to do potatoes in here too. I either cut them into pieces, or use fingerling potatoes. I left them out
This time. Feel free to throw whatever you like in there.

Pour the packet sauce mix over the top of everything. Cook (preferably) on low for 8 hours. You can do it on high for 4 hours if you don't have the time. That's what I did this time.

Progress about halfway through the cook time. (two hours for me)

Finished product.

Serve and enjoy!

                                                             1 HOUR ROLLS

We LOVE fresh baked rolls at our house. I usually make traditional rolls, but decided I'd try out this quick 1 hour recipe tonight. Rolls were kind of an after thought this evening and I didn't have time to go the traditional route. These were quick, easy and tasty. I will change up the recipe next time though and use a different fat... probably softened butter... because I could taste the oil in the finished product. The rest of the fam loved them. Its a good go to for when you're in a time crunch! And did I mention EASY???

Combine warm water, oil, sugar and yeast. Be sure your water is not too hot or it will kill the yeast. Also, if you're using a metal bowl its a good idea to run the bowl under warm water before beginning. A cold bowl will bring your water temperature down significantly.

Let the mixture sit for about 15 minutes until its frothy like this.

Add beaten egg and salt.

Mix in flour until combined. You want to add enough flour to make a sticky dough.

Mix with dough hook. (if you don't have a mixer, combine it by hand and turn out on a flour surface. Knead for 5 minutes.)

It should look something like this. It will be sticky. That's ok. Don't add more flour or they'll turn out tough.

Let rest for about 10 minutes on the bowl. Then it's ready to shape.

Spray your baking sheet with non stock spray. I spray my hands too. It makes the sticky dough MUCH easier to handle.

Take the dough and shape onto a ball. Push your finger up through it, as pictured. Pinch the dough closed on the bottom.

Place the dough on the greased sheet, seam side down.

Line 'em up! I got 15 rolls out of this recipe.

Cover with a light towel and let rise for about 20 minutes.

Ready to bake! Bake in 375° oven for 10 minutes or until lightly browned.

Brush with butter or enjoy as they are!

Recipe as follows:

- 1/3 C. oil
- 2 Tablespoons of yeast
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 egg, beaten
- 3 1/3 flour

Directions
1. In a kitchenaid mixer bowl, mix together warm water, sugar, oil and yeast. Let stand 15 minutes until yeast mixture is frothy or bubbly.
2. Stir in salt and beaten egg into yeast mixture.
3. Gradually add flour. Dough will be sticky. Add enough flour to make dough manageable. Let dough sit in bowl for about 10 minutes.
4. Spray baking sheet and hands with non stick spray and form dough into balls. Place dough on baking sheet, cover with light towel and let rise for about 20 minutes.
5. Bake in a 375° oven for about 10 minutes or until lightly brown.
